To deliver commercially viable renewable energy in sufficient quantities, the industry must overcome a number of regulatory, technical planning, and commercial issues relating to connection and integration. The Renewable Energy Grid Integration Summit, organised by London Business Conferences delves into the high-level, strategic issues relating to the integration of renewable energy. An unique, European benchmarking opportunity, the summit examines practical strategies that energy generators, project developers and grid operators can implement to overcome obstacles posed by local planning schemes and regulations, and, importantly, how this can be done in a cost-efficient and timely way. Solutions from the leading countries' grid operators, including UK, Denmark, Spain, Belgium and Norway will be presented.
As the number of renewable energy projects – and the demand for them – increases, the industry also needs to develop an effective cost sharing framework. Who should pay for the grid connection and for the necessary upgrades? The energy industry is still lobbying for new regulation in this field and there is a need to benchmark European policies in the sector in order to develop an efficient regional lobbying plan and influence new planning regulations. These sessions will include important insights from OFGEM, BERR, the French Energy Commission, the Irish Commission for Energy Regulation, the European Commission’s DG-TREN and the Dutch Ministry of Economical Affairs.

London Business Conferences has identified the industry's need to establish 'joint-thinking' approaches on the real way forward for renewables - ensuring that the government's objectives can be facilitated both by the project developers and transmission system operators. The Renewable Energy Grid Integration Summit has been designed specifically to assist the industry with defining an actionable horizon plan for the successful development of renewable energy projects.
Day One of the Summit, chaired by Sir John Mogg (chairman, OFGEM and CEER), will start with crucial inputs from the regulators both at the European and national level and assess future electricity regulation, market mechanism and funding models. These sessions will be followed by an industry panel leading into a pan-audience discussion on the industry’s needs in order to reach these regulatory objectives. These sessions will set the agenda for two days of strategic joined-up thinking and benchmarking on how to effectively connect renewable energy project to the grid, looking at overcoming the planning hurdles both from the grid operator’s side and the developer’s side.
Day Two, chaired by Ronnie Belman, Chairman, Elia, will focus on assessing the current state of the grid, including what can actually be done right now, and looking at key strategies for site selection in order to accelerate the process. Special sessions focusing on on-shore and offshore wind farm development have also been included, from Infinis, Iberdrola Renewables and OU Nelja Energia.
